A great fish-monger in Brixton

Few things cheer me up like finding a great source of food. It may be down to my traumatic experience of overwintering in Yeltsin's starved Russia but I prefer not to analyse it too much. One thing that matters that yesterday I made a discovery that made an otherwise gloomy overcast day a joyful one.

The hangar-like Fish Bargain Warehouse is located on Acre Lane, across the street from the gormless Tesco. True, this is not Tsukiji and it all is frozen fish but the array of choice is astounding. I spent nearly half an hour browsing the long rows of freeze boxes. From parrot fish, razor clams and shark steaks to swordfish filet, horse crabs and whole barracudas - they seem to cover it all.

The prices are very attractive: on the average under 10 quid per kilo, often even less than that. A pound of whitebait and 2 pounds of wild salmon steaks - I did not feel very adventurous yesterday - set me back mere 6.55!

There is a pentecostal church on top of the shop, so you get blessings with every purchase!
